About the role 🤓

We are are seeking an accomplished and visionary Senior Accountant to help shape the accounting operations outside of Spain and play a pivotal role in shaping seQura’s financial future. This position is critical to our organization’s growth and success, particularly as we prepare for multiple jurisdiction expansions in the coming years. The ideal candidate will bring a robust accounting background, preferably within innovative, technology-driven companies, as well as experience in banking or financial institutions.


As Senior Accountant, you will oversee financial operations, drive strategic initiatives, and ensure compliance with all regulatory and accounting standards (IFRS). Reporting to the Head of Accounting, you will play a crucial role in aligning financial strategies with company goals and ensuring operational excellence.

Job requirements

What challenges you'll be solving 🚀

  • Oversee and lead all accounting operations across multiple entities and geographies (EU-Sweden and beyond), ensuring excellence in financial reporting, tax compliance, and adherence to banking/financial services regulations.

  • Ensure the integrity of accounting information by compiling, verifying, analyzing, and accurately recording asset, liability, revenue, and expense transactions, with a specific focus on loan management.

  • Lead month-end closing activities, including preparing and posting journal entries, performing reconciliations (including complex bank and financial product reconciliations), and accurately recording all income and expenses.

  • Prepare and review monthly balance sheets, P&L statements, and other financial reports, including supporting schedules for regulatory returns.

  • Calculate, record, and analyze default provisions for expected credit losses (IFRS 9) within the consumer lending portfolio and other financial assets.

  • Support the preparation and submission of regulatory reports to relevant financial authorities.

  • Proactively maintain internal controls relevant to financial reporting in a banking/financial services context, suggest improvements, and uphold high compliance standards with accounting policies and regulatory requirements.

  • Collaborate closely with FP&A, Treasury, Operations, Risk, and Tech teams to clearly communicate the financial and regulatory implications of business decisions.

  • Take ownership of accounting processes, continuously improving their efficiency, robustness, and scalability in line with banking best practices.

What you’ll need 🫱🏼‍🫲🏽

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. CPA, ACCA, or equivalent certification is highly preferred.

  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, with significant experience in the banking, fintech, lending, or financial services sector.

  • Fluent in English (both written and spoken), with a strong ability to clearly communicate financial information and collaborate effectively across teams.

  • ERP proficiency is mandatory (at least 2+ years). You must be able to navigate the system confidently, run reports, and leverage/optimize its functionalities. Experience with banking-specific software or regulatory reporting tools is a significant plus.

  • Strong knowledge of IFRS (particularly IFRS 9 – Financial Instruments) and core accounting principles, with demonstrable experience in their application within a financial services context.

  • Advanced Excel skills are required (pivot tables, lookups, power-query data analysis)

  • Proven expertise in managing general ledger, month-end close, financial reporting, and supporting regulatory reporting for financial institutions.

  • Analytical and curious. You enjoy diving into financial data to identify trends, investigate anomalies, perform variance analysis, and synthesize findings for stakeholders.

  • Have a hands-on, proactive attitude. You take ownership of your responsibilities and hold yourself accountable for delivering accurate work on time.

  • A collaborative team player who embodies our values.

  • Familiarity with banking regulations and reporting requirements in the Swedish jurisdiction would be a strong plus
