About the role 🤓

As a Senior Data Privacy Counsel, you will play a pivotal role in the design and execution of the company’s global privacy and data protection strategy.

This position reports directly to the Head of Legal and will work closely with seQura’s Data Protection Officer (DPO) to ensure the company’s compliance with data protection laws and best practices while enabling innovation and business growth.

The ideal candidate combines strong legal expertise in data privacy with a pragmatic mindset, able to translate complex regulations into actionable solutions for a fast-moving fintech environment.

Job requirements

What challenges you'll be solving 🚀

  • Advise business, product, and tech teams on data protection and privacy issues across seQura’s operations and markets (Spain, France, Italy, Portugal, Germany and future expansions).

  • Collaborate closely with the DPO to maintain and enhance seQura’s privacy compliance framework, policies, and processes.

  • Support the implementation of privacy-by-design and privacy-by-default principles in product development and new initiatives.

  • Draft, review, and negotiate privacy-related contractual clauses, including data processing agreements and cross-border data transfer mechanisms.

  • Monitor legislative and regulatory developments in the EU and other relevant jurisdictions, assessing their impact and advising internal stakeholders accordingly.

  • Conduct privacy impact assessments (PIAs) and risk analyses in collaboration with the DPO and relevant business units.

  • Provide clear and practical guidance to internal teams on GDPR, ePrivacy, and other applicable data protection laws.

  • Contribute to privacy training programs and awareness initiatives across the company.

  • Partner with cross-functional teams (Legal, Compliance, Security, Product, and Engineering) to ensure a coherent and business-oriented approach to privacy and data governance.

What you’ll need  🫱🏼‍🫲🏽

  • Law degree in an EU jurisdiction. A postgraduate degree or certification in privacy, compliance, or data protection (e.g., CIPP/E, CIPM, or equivalent) is a must.

  • Minimum of 8 years of legal experience, including at least 5 years specializing in privacy and data protection law, ideally gained within a fintech, financial institution, or fast-growing tech company, or at a leading law firm advising such clients.

  • Fluency in English and Spanish (written and spoken). Knowledge of French, Italian, or Portuguese is a plus.

  • Strong knowledge of GDPR, ePrivacy Directive, and familiarity with global privacy frameworks.

  • Proven ability to combine independence and rigor with pragmatism in execution.

  • Excellent drafting and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with both technical and non-legal stakeholders.

  • A proactive, ownership-driven mindset with strong collaboration skills.

  • Leadership, charisma, and influencing skills, with the ability to persuade, build trust, and generate meaningful impact across different levels of the organization.

  • Recognized as a credible advisor and team player, with discretion and influence at senior levels.

  • Leadership capacity to design and drive a long-term data protection program.

  • Strategic thinking, with the ability to anticipate regulatory trends, align privacy priorities with business goals, and contribute to long-term planning.
